Australian Team Representatives

We have found 33 instances of one of our students being selected to an Australian team – quite a remarkable achievement.

The earliest we can find on record is 1961 when Robyn Tansey made the Australian girls Hockey team.

Cross Country Skiing has been the most prolific with 5 – Finlay Clarke (2014 in Canada), Xanthea Dewez (2011, 2012, 2013), Aislinn Kildea (2011, 2012),and Kate Spiller & Andrew Johnson (1997 in Sweden).

Four boys have made a prized All Australian Football team – Steve Johnson (2001 Under 18), Sean O’Keefe (1999 Under 17), Darren Steele (1985 Under 17), and Andrew Douglas (1981, Under 15 Full Back).

We have had 3 make an Australian Basketball team – Heather Oliver (2007, Sydney), Deanne Smitheram (1997, USA) and Stuart Baird (1982).

Two girls have made an Australian Netball team, and both incredibly were in the same year (1982). That was Robyn Townsend (Under 16) and Lisa Wilson (Under 15). The following year, they were both in our Senior team that won the 1983 All High State Title. Long-time P.E Teacher Zelda Yeates made it at Under 21 level.

We have had 2 reach that pinnacle in Volleyball (Bec Gilbert 2001 and Kerry White 1995), and two in Golf (Andrew Kelly 2004 and Brad Lamb 1997, 1998).

In Cricket, Fraser Ellis stands alone (2015), as does Aimi Delahaye in Soccer (2012).

We are certain we have more. Contact Jud.Mullins@education.vic.gov.au if you can help us either:

a. Add an instance we have missed,

b. Send a photo of one of these players in the Australian strip.
