Our ‘Above the Line’ model for working with others

The “Above the Line” framework empowers individuals to foster positive growth, trust, and learning by adopting proactive and responsible behaviours. The framework contrasts “Above the Line” attitudes, such as Responsibility, Ownership, Acceptance, and Reflection (ROAR), with “Below the Line” behaviours, like Blame, Excuses, Denial, and Drama (BED). It encourages individuals to move beyond defensive or limiting mindsets and embrace the belief that they are creators of their wellbeing, capable of questioning assumptions and focusing on meaningful change. This visually engaging guide serves as a practical tool for self-awareness and transformation.

We find it useful in our work with students, but also when we reflect on ourselves as teachers and leaders and in our work with others. We think you will find it useful at home. You can download a PDF version below
