Principal Report

It was fabulous to see many families and prospective students attending the Year 7 2022 Transition Information evening. Families were given a brief description of the special programs that are offered at Wangaratta High School and a broad curriculum overview. A highlight was the presentation of a video that was made in term 4 last year, “A Day in the Life of a Year 7 Student”. The evening was completed with guided tours of the school with our prefects. The video can be viewed on our website:

Upcoming events:

  • Thursday 18th March: Year 7 Immunisations
  • Wednesday 31st March: Talent Quest

Recognising Diversity and Ensuring Inclusive Practices

On Tuesday, all staff completed professional development around inclusive practices. Our day started off with Cultural Understanding and Safety Training where we learnt how to create a culturally inclusive environment and to understand important Indigenous cultural aspects. We also delved into pre and post colonisation history, and reviewed Aboriginal Perspectives in our curriculum.

In the second session we learnt about how to teach gender and identity, and positive gender relationships. Violence prevention and respectful relationships education is an important focus of the Victorian Government’s Action Plan to prevent violence against Women and their Children.

Respectful Relationships Education: Violence Prevention and Respectful Relationships Education in Victorian Secondary Schools Report argued that there are five powerful reasons to focus education efforts on young people:

  • Adolescence is a crucial period in terms of the formation of respectful, non-violent relationships.
  • Many children and young people experience violence in their homes.
  • Young people are already being subjected to, and perpetrating, violence themselves.
  • There is already a degree of tolerance for violence against girls and women.
  • Violence prevention among children and youth has been shown to work.

Educating students on respectful relationships and violence prevention is the responsibility of the whole school community. Finally, we received professional development and training so that we are better equipped to support our LGBTQI+ students.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Information on how to book your Semester 1 Parent Teacher Interviews. Parent Teacher Interviews for Semester 1, 2021 will be held on Wednesday 28th April. Please note this is a student free day.
Booking times this year will stretchfrom 11am - 7pm, to allow access for families that work or have daily commitments.
Is it the expectation of the school that all Parents and carers book a time to come in and discuss your students' progress so far in 2021, and goals moving forward.
To do this, please follow the steps below.

Prior to your visit, it is advised to access Compass with your student and check their progress within each subject, taking special note of the grade of each Common Assessment Task (CAT).
This can be advised by entering Compass and clicking on the pencil icon,  then the 'Learning Tasks' tab. From here all the Learning Tasks and CATs will appear.
Clicking on each Learning Task/CAT will provided you with a detailed description of the task, your students' completion of the task, and any comments/results the teacherhas entered.
If you have any further questions or queries around this process, please don't hesitate to contact the school at any time on (03) 5723 0500.
We look forward to seeing you at Parent Teacher Interviews on Wednesday 28th April.

Year 7 2022 Information Night

Our 2022 Transition to Year 7 Information Night was held on Thursday March 4th. We had a fantastic turn out, with almost 150 prospective future students and parents attending.

Year 9 Morrisby Career Profiling Week

Last week (10th, 11th 12th March) the majority of the year 9 students participated in the Morrisby Career Profiling (MCP) sessions as part of the My Career Insights program. The sessions ran over three periods with timed breaks in-between. The profiling consists of eight sections including verbal, numerical, abstract, mechanical and spatial. My Career Insights is a program for all Year 9 students in Victorian Government secondary schools.

The Year 9 students really embraced the opportunity to participate in the MCP, and are looking forward to the follow up, 30 minute interviews with a Morrisby trained Careers Consultant next term, prior to course counselling for 2022. Each student who completed the profiling will receive a hard copy report of their results that they get to keep, which will give them a detailed explanation of how they performed in each section. There are also suggestions on career pathways, subjects for year 10, 11 and 12 and suggestions for 18 years and over.

My Career Insights will help students discover, develop and drive their career planning. It is a unique opportunity for students to learn more about their strengths and abilities while exploring potential career options – giving them the confidence to start taking control of their future.

Students will be allocated a time for their follow up interview next term and parents/carers are encouraged to attend with their child.
