Last Day of Term 1 Arrangements

A reminder that this Thursday 1st April is the last day of Term 1. As school will finish at 2:30pm, Session 5 will run a little differently;
  • At the end of lunch (1:49pm), students are to move directly to their session 5 classes.
  • Rolls will be marked, and a general clean up within your learning areas will take place - this includes tables straightened, chairs up and onto tables, and all windows locked.
  • Subject teachers will escort their classes to their lockers, and students are to clean lockers in and around the locker bays - discarding any rubbish, food scraps, etc.
  • A rubbish clean-up around the school will then take place.
  • Students will be allowed to collect their bags when the teacher has dismissed them, on the bell at 2:30pm.
Please note that buses will still be running, and will run an hour ahead of schedule.
We hope everyone has a great two week break, and enjoys a safe and happy Easter with friends and family.
Term 2 will commence on Monday 19th April.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Information on how to book your Semester 1 Parent Teacher Interviews. Parent Teacher Interviews for Semester 1, 2021 will be held on Wednesday 28th April. Please note this is a student free day.
Booking times this year will stretchfrom 11am - 7pm, to allow access for families that work or have daily commitments.
Is it the expectation of the school that all Parents and carers book a time to come in and discuss your students' progress so far in 2021, and goals moving forward.
To do this, please follow the steps below.

Prior to your visit, it is advised to access Compass with your student and check their progress within each subject, taking special note of the grade of each Common Assessment Task (CAT).
This can be advised by entering Compass and clicking on the pencil icon,  then the 'Learning Tasks' tab. From here all the Learning Tasks and CATs will appear.
Clicking on each Learning Task/CAT will provided you with a detailed description of the task, your students' completion of the task, and any comments/results the teacherhas entered.
If you have any further questions or queries around this process, please don't hesitate to contact the school at any time on (03) 5723 0500.
We look forward to seeing you at Parent Teacher Interviews on Wednesday 28th April.

March 4 Justice

On Monday the 15th of March, we attended the Women’s March 4 Justice. It was a great experience and we all enjoyed it. The Protest was for women’s rights and justice for women and to promote the ideals of feminism, which is the advocacy of women’s rights on the ground of equality of the sexes. Ours was one of many marches held across Australia to gain the attention of politicians at Parliament House, where recent events have uncovered how women are unfairly and wrongly treated.

The protest started at midday in King George Gardens and we then marched around the central business district of Wangaratta. People were carrying signs and posters which voiced their concerns and everyone watching had amazed looks on their faces as we marched past. After the march everyone rallied back at the gardens, where a few people including the organiser and CEO of Women’s Health Goulburn North East, Amanda Kelly, made motivational and inspiring speeches. Then all of young people in attendance were called up and we heard from the teenagers of Wangaratta.

The ages of people ranged from teenagers to grandparents and included women and men, all of whom had come out to promote justice for women. The energy was ecstatic, and it felt like the protest was an immense occasion. It is hard to know how many people were there, but there were certainly hundreds of people that had come from all over North East Victoria.

Thank you to the organisers of the protest because without you we would not have been able to come and have our voices heard on this important issue that needs to be addressed, especially in our capital city.

Year 8 SEAL Humanities - The Renaissance

In Year 8 SEAL Humanities, the class have been researching, reporting and teaching each other about different elements of the Renaissance period. Working in groups of 3 or 4, students covered the topics of the origins and spread of the Renaissance; political and economic features; everyday life; scientific revolution; art; the role of the church, the Reformation and Counter-Reformation; and the legacies of the Renaissance, including the Enlightenment. In the presentation of the information, two groups were brilliant in their creativity and engagement of the audience using role plays, costumes, questions and connections to the class. The class will now move onto learning about the making of the modern world and their place within it.

Careers Visit to Bonegilla Army Barracks

On Friday 26th March, Wangaratta High School students were given the opportunity to travel to Latchford Barracks in Bonegilla to attend a careers day. The bus left at 10:30am, and we travelled up the freeway and arrived at around 11:30am. Once there, we were introduced to one of the Warrant Officers who was in charge of our group. He was in charge of taking us to each of the different booths and to also make sure we did not get lost amongst the other schools that were attending.

The first place we went to was one of the vehicles that the army uses out on the field. It was very cramped inside and the roof was quite low. If you were able to sit down it was a bit better. There was one booth where we got to hold and look at some of the guns used by the defence force. We spent the rest of the day going from one booth to another and looking at everything, and also being able to have hands on opportunities with some of the equipment.

The day at the barracks was really fun and we learnt a lot about different career options that are available in the defence force. Specifically, we learnt that that it is best to choose a job that comes with a qualification  for when your leave the defence force.

Thank you to Mrs Walters for coming with us and also to Shane Crispin at NE Tracks LLEN for you continued support of Wangaratta High School.
