I think you would agree with me that the Talent Quest evening was an outstanding success showcasing our incredibly talented students. It was the first outdoor COVID music event in Wangaratta and was well supported by the Wangaratta community. The night itself had a real music festival atmosphere, outdoors under lights, food provided by our VCAL students and a good time had by performers and audience alike.
Congratulations to the Talent Quest winners;

Wangaratta High School continues to enjoy its long standing relationship with the 2/24th Battalion, and our prefects were honoured to carry the 2/24th Battalion banner at the Anzac Parade in Wangaratta on Anzac Day. We were in fact the only school who was permitted to march on Sunday in Wangaratta. We were also honoured by the following guests who supported the Anzac Assembly last Thursday;
Wangaratta RSL representatives Ash Power, Greg Larkins and Liz Rouse Salmon.
2/24th Battalion AIF Association representatives Alastair Davison, Janice & David Young.
Paul Zuch from the 33 Army Cadet Unit Wangaratta, and our special guests Cr. Ashlee Fitzpatrick representing the Rural City of Wangaratta and Dr. Helen Haines MP.
You are invited to attend Parent/Teacher interviews this Wednesday from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. Please make appointments through Compass.
After having the event cancelled in 2020, we wanted to come back in 2021 bigger and better than ever – and boy did we!
Not only was WHS history made as being the first ever Talent Quest to be held outside, we had a great turnout of over 300 people. With over 25 acts performing, the night was a huge success, and showcased the broad and extensive range of talent our students (and staff!) possess.
Year 12 Band 'Genzet' took out the crowning glory, winning the Talent Quest overall, with their performance of 'Baby Come Back'. Consisting of Leticia Box Corsini, Liv Zabilowicz, Ben Scott, Mikaylah Rumbelow and Jake Molino, this year was Genzet's final peformance in the WHS talent quest. It has been a joy watching the band members form, grow and improve together over the years.
Sefa Solomua performed a fantastic rendition of 'You're My Girl', with Erin Hepburn dazling crowds with her original song 'Silly Game'. Abby Pegler showed us her piano skills with her performance of 'Clair De Lune', whilst Year 12 larakins Mitch Clancy and Sophie Macklan provided some comedic relief with an...interseting... performance of 'Tequila' (Great triangle skills Mitch).
As usual, a big highlight of the night is the teacher performance. Assistant Principal Jay Weston kicked off with an uncanny resemblence of Freddie Mercury, with Sandy Newman and Zelda Yeates giving it their all as members of AC/DC.
A big thank you to Judd Mullins and Scott Solimo for being the backbone of this event - the amount of time and effort put into getting this event off the ground, and for running as smoothly as it did, is to be commended.
You all make the Wangaratta High School community proud. Well done and congratulations to everyone involved!

Last Thursday 22nd April, we held our annual Anzac Day Assembly Services.
As 2020 prevented us from holding our traditional service, this year we made the most of being able to once again physically gather together to commemorate and show our respect to those who offered their lives up to protect our country, in true Anzac spirit.
Our Prefect team are to be once again congratulated on doing a fantastic job in their roles and ensuring the two services ran smoothy and efficiently.
Another well done to all of our students, who showed respect and listened with pride.
We had a number of special guests attend our services. Their attendance is truly appreciated, and always adds authenticity and character to our ceremonies.
Than you to:
Wangaratta RSL Representatives Ash Power, Greg Larkins and Liz Rouse Salmon.
2/24th Battalion AIF Association Inc Representatives Alastair Davison, Janice & David Young.
Paul Zuch from the 33rd Army Cadet Unit Wangaratta, Cr Ashlee Fitzpatrick from Rural City of Wangaratta and Dr. Helen Haines MP.
Proud to be Wangaratta High School.
Lest we forget.
Anzac Day March & Cenotaph Service
On Sunday, a selection of our Prefects (Uli Wild, Shevanti Perera, Alannah Baguley, Hayley Murphy-Graham, Tobias Miliankos-King, Fiona Schilling and Tom Solimo) and our 2/24th Ambassador Brooke Miller represented Wangaratta High School in Wangaratta’s annual Anzac Day March.
WHS was privileged to be the only school in Wangaratta to participate, leading the march with the 2/24th Battalion banner.
Brooke again gave a fantastic speech during the service at the Cenotaph, highlighting the history around the 2/24th Battalion and her involvement with the Association as ambassador. In fact, Brooke was the keynote speaker of the service.
The group then attended a luncheon at the RSL afterwards.
We are all extremely proud of the respect, maturity and leadership that not only our prefects showed, but also the whole school at various Anzac services over the last week.
Proud to be Wangaratta High School.

Fears overcome, heights reached and team building strengthened… on the Year 10 Outdoor Education rock climbing trip to Chiltern-Mount Pilot National Park on Friday 23rd April.
With the original date being postponed due to heavy rain falls we could not have asked for better conditions with the weather producing a pleasant 18 and mainly sunny day. All students gave it their best on the day with many conquering all six climbs on the ‘unearthed wall’. Others were just as happy to have reached half way up a 30m granite boulder while putting their life in the hands of the belayers.
Thanks to Mrs Belci for helping meet staff ratios, the Bright Adventure Company for supplying the safety equipment and instructors and Mark from Fallons Buslines for getting us to and from the venue.
Year 10 Outdoor Education Teacher
This year in 2021, Riley has moved up into the under 19 year old category as bottom age; having just turned 17. The under 19 category is also called the world “Junior” category where Riley will now have the opportunity to accrue UCI points. The UCI is an international ranking system for cyclists.
Riley has come back to the sport from some serious injuries over the last two years to be back on the podium in 2021. His commitment to his recovery and training has been inspiring.
His mountain bike results over the past week at the National Championships, held at Maydena in Tasmania, have made Riley eligible for national team selection. Riley came third in the Cross-country Olympic under 19 Junior race on Saturday 13th March, an outstanding achievement as a bottom age competitor in a very strong field of 29 riders. Riley used his high level of fitness, strength, agility, and superior mountain biking skills to win the Bronze Medal.
Outstanding efforts Riley!
