The name of our school Wangaratta is the Bpangerang word for the long neck of the cormorant.
Senior Years
At Wangaratta High School our Senior Years includes all students and programs in Years 11 and 12. Students in our Senior Years are provided with a broad range of challenging programs reflective of the diversity of our broader community and are fortunate to be involved in quality, personalised, learning programs and co-curricular opportunities.
Some of these include: an extensive music program, outdoor education, World Challenge, International Exchange Programs and a variety of sporting and extension activities. Students are able to select from a broad range of courses so as to provide alternative pathways beyond secondary school.

Year 11
Year 11 at Wangaratta High School marks a pivotal stage where students begin their VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education) or VCE Vocational Major journey, engaging deeply with Units 1 and 2 across their chosen subjects. This year is foundational, offering students the opportunity to explore a broad range of academic and pathway areas that will help shape their specialisations in Year 12. The curriculum is designed to deepen students’ understanding of each subject, fostering critical thinking skills and stimulating intellectual curiosity.
At Wangaratta High, Year 11 is also a time for personal development and growing independence and responsibility. Special Examination Arrangements (SEA) for VCE Units 3 and 4
Special Examination Arrangements (SEA) applications may be approved for students with disabilities, illnesses or other circumstances that affect their ability to access a Unit 3 and 4 external assessments (GAT and end-of-year examinations).
SEA applications are made to the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) through Wangaratta High School. Senior School staff are aware of and will work with students who may be eligible to apply, and the application process must be completed in early March annually. We invite input from parents/carers also to ensure that the needs of all students are met.
SEA applications are only for students studying a Unit 3 and 4 VCE subject and subject to the rules and conditions of VCAA, so if you believe that your child may be eligible, please contact the Senior Years Leader for further information or guidance.
